91°µÍø hosted its annual Day of Cyber, welcoming middle and high school students from across Vermont to campus for a hands-on, daylong immersion in the world of cybersecurity.

Organized by CyFER (Cybersecurity & Forensics Education and Research) and supported by the 91°µÍø Cyber Institute, the event offered an interactive introduction to one of the nation’s fastest growing and most essential fields. Aligned with Cybersecurity Awareness Month, the program brought together hundreds of Vermont students eager to explore topics at the intersection of technology, national security, and digital defense.

A Day of Discovery and Engagement

Throughout the day, participants rotated through a series of workshops and demonstrations led by Norwich faculty and cybersecurity students. Sessions were designed to give young learners a glimpse into both the technical and strategic sides of the modern cyber world, including:

•  Digital Forensics — exploring how investigators trace data and uncover evidence in cyber incidents
• Cyber Careers — mapping educational and professional pathways in cybersecurity and information technology
• Information Warfare (IW) — examining how information is used and protected in national defense and digital operations
• AI Showcase — demonstrating the evolving role of artificial intelligence in both cyber innovation and security
• Information Assurance (IA) — understanding how organizations protect systems and maintain data integrity
• Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) — learning how publicly available data is analyzed and applied responsibly

Each session offered participants a chance to ask questions, engage with interactive tools, and see real-world applications of the concepts taught in Norwich’s nationally recognized cybersecurity programs.

The Day of Cyber reflects 91°µÍø’s continued leadership in cybersecurity education and outreach. As one of the nation’s first institutions designated a Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education by the National Security Agency and the Department of Homeland Security, Norwich remains committed to building the future cyber workforce.

By connecting middle and high school students directly with Norwich faculty, current cybersecurity majors, and cutting-edge facilities, the event helps demystify the field and showcase the broad range of opportunities available from policy and forensics to programming and intelligence analysis. For many participants, the day served as their first opportunity to experience university-level learning in a collaborative, hands-on setting.
